"Spirit of the Forest" 2024
Statement
I create paintings using traditional East Asian materials and techniques, drawing inspiration from forests and the natural world and exploring the theme of life in harmony and coexistence.
Using pigments - IWAENOGU - made from natural minerals and other materials, together with NIKAWA, a traditional animal-glue binder, I seek to express a mythical and sacred world through the distinctive textures and colors of IWAENOGU, as well as the luminous effects of gold and silver leaf.
For this exhibition, I have created a series of seasonal landscapes on folding screens, incorporating the subtle beauty of gold, silver, and white pigments.
